I came to Evelyn with the idea of a dress in mind. With this, along with her suggestions and my browsing through catalogs, we were able to design together the perfect special occasion dress for me. She knows her fabrics, and chose the right one for the design and for my comfort. I would never consider purchasing an "off the rack" dress again after this wonderful experience with Evelyn. She cares about her clients, and will do everything within her power to accommodate their wishes. She is also honest and will tell you if something is not flattering. How often does that happen! I brought her a picture of what I had in mind as well as others that reflected the theme and style of the wedding I was planning and she created a gown that was perfect for me. Highly Recommend! Evelyn knows her stuff - I went to Evelyn's Designs (worked with Evelyn) to have my wedding dress altered. My dress is one of the more difficult alterations. Evelyn had to take in 4 inches from my corset top, which has tulle and beading all around it, so needless to say, I was a little nervous when it came to seeing the final work. I was completely impressed and I couldn't tell that she had taken the whole thing apart. It fit me perfectly and she knew exactly what I wanted and how to make it fit my figure. I searched around for getting a good idea on how much something like that should cost and had quotes from $80-$200 dollars. She charged $100 and was the only person I went to who said it needed to be taken in and KNEW how to do it. If she can get something complicated done like that, she can handle any job. She not only designs and makes dresses weekly, but she teaches fashion, so I really can't imagine anyone better for any fashion, design, or alteration job. Not to mention that she is kind, to the point, and works with you. Jasmine

I had an idea of how I wanted my wedding dress to look and was not happy with what I was finding in the retail stores. My mom and I went shopping and eventually we meet Evelyn. I showed her some sketches of how I wanted my dress to look and she created my dream wedding dress. Eleven years later, I still look back at that special time with joy. One day my daughter may wear my dress for her wedding! I have needed Evelyn's skill throughout the years for formal occasions. Currently, Evelyn is altering a bridesmaid dress for me and a flower girl dress for my daughter. Thank you Evelyn for always doing a remarkable job. "Evelyn truly saved the day in regards to my wedding dress and veil. After purchasing my dress from a boutique shop in Richmond, we were appalled at the high prices of alterations and the impersonal service. I had read about Evelyn in Richmond Brides magazine a few months before, and had already been casually in touch with her about designing a veil (again - to save off of retail/bridal store mark-ups). My mother, sister, and I went to see Evelyn to discuss the possibility of her doing all of my dress alterations, as well as veil creation, after our unsettling experience at the retail store. From moment one, Evelyn was incredibly sweet, understanding, and flexible. She gave us an excellent quote and, truly, I think my mom would probably have gone with her regardless, simply because of the vastly more pleasant experience we knew we would have with Evelyn. She coached us through three dress fittings, helped me design the perfect veil, dyed the shoes I bought separately to the right shade, and even encouraged us to purchase (not from her - just in general) a small, decorative hair comb/headpiece to make the look special when my veil was removed during the reception. She had wonderful ideas, a personable demeanor, and I truly felt like a friend and valued customer with Evelyn; not like a number or a paycheck, as can often be felt as larger retail stores. My dress fit perfectly and got so many compliments!
